I know some people enjoy the hardware stuff but I don't I'm much more a software/entertainment person, and would prefer to avoid fiddling with heat sinks unless they're one of the "must haves" (or "should haves") for a media server.Ģ) How will I know if the Pi is " too hot"? Does it have a temperature sensor? Or will the case start melting? Should I even be running it in the case? There doesn't seem to be any ventilation, aside from the small cracks around the ports.Follow peppe8o posts on -> Twitter What Is Plex Given that this media server will be "always on" (but not always in use), do you think I should I install those heat sinks now, or wait until I start seeing symptoms of the Pi running "too hot"? I've installed heat sinks in self-built PCs before, but never in a tiny device like a Pi. I am still waiting for a USB keyboard and mouse, and also a 4TB 5,400 RPM external drive, which should arrive from the US in a couple weeks.ġ) My Pi came with heat sinks (not installed). Hi, I ordered a Raspberry Pi last week, and it arrived today. What sort of Raspberry Pi and software will I need to get something like this up and running? Streaming audio and still images directly to the TV would be nice, but not critical. It would be nice to be able to stream audio or video to that Chromecast (using a tablet to control the stream) but it's not critical as long as the Smart TV can stream video directly from the media server.ĥ) I'd actually prefer to stream video directly to the Smart TV, since I'm guessing that would be faster/smoother than using the Chromecast as a "middle-man". I don't care what software is used to control the audio stream, as long as it runs on Android.Ĥ) I have a normal Chromecast (Video) connected to a Smart TV. I'd like to stream audio to it from the media server (so that I can listen to the parts of my collection which are not on Spotify). Still images would be nice too (for slideshows on the TV) but not a must-have.ģ) I have a Chromecast Audio connected to the upstairs stereo. Copying via wifi would be more flexible, since the media server could sit in any room but USB file transfer would be okay too.Ģ) I'd like the media server to serve both music files (FLAC and MP3) and video files (MKV, MP4, WMV) to the media server. I'd like to set up a media server which streams both audio and video to my Chromecast, Chromecast Audio, and Smart TV.ġ) I'd like to copy files from my PC (where I rip all my CDs and DVDs/blu-rays) to the media server using either wifi or USB.
